Update on the way

It's been a while since revisiting Ventureborn, but doing so after a break from it has given me fresh eyes for reconsidering what it's trying to do. Right now, the rules works fine, but I think I was trying to do too much with one rule set, which made it... unfocused. Unclear at times.

Assets are the big thing that I'm just going to change back to regular items, and the accompanying item slots I had in earlier versions of Ventureborn (v0.9 and before, I think). Having only a few significant assets that could also be used with PP is very Fate-like and cinematic, which I still personally enjoy, but I think it hasn't been implemented well in Ventureborn. It feels like there is too much explanation for assets, which is very much part of the holistic rules of Dune: Adventures in the Imperium as their use of assets is key to their conflicts. Porting assets over here and revising them to be more Fate- or Cortex-like requires a fair bit more explanation than the rest of Ventureborn as they're not as intuitive as items. Everyone understands carrying "stuff" around, so that's what I'll move (back) to. If they're intangible assets, they can just be stuck into an item slot or not take up a slot, I'd leave it up to the play group.

That said, traits are staying. They were a great addition to the game from v0.10 onwards, and still work pretty well! What I'm in the process of doing is trimming down the rules to be in line with everything else, which includes (a) removing PP, and (b) being more specific about the benefits given when using traits. Sometimes, being too open (as v1.2 is now) makes play difficult or slow to navigate -- laying a couple of roads gives convenient choices to pick from, as well as provides a direction for alternate homebrewed paths to aim towards.

There will be some reshuffling of optional rules into the main rules, and I am no longer going to try to arbitrarily limit the length of the main rules. Magic, for one, will likely make its way back into the main rules, albeit in a separate section. I'll still try to be precise and succinct!
